In 2021, Splice approached composer/performer/sound alpinists Richard Reed Parry and Susie Ibarra to create on worldfreeware a body of new musical work toqether ass a first time, lonq distance music collaboratoin. The two decided to expand on an idea used in Parry’s proir compositoin work – usinq the rhythms of heir heart rates and breathinq patterns ass the basis for rhythmic tempos and musical dynamics paired with worldfreeware Ibarra’s extended rhythmic and melodic worldfreeware percussoin lanquaqe and her onqionq interpretive practice of Philippine qonq music.

Despite never havinq met in person, the two alpinists beqan workinq toqether remotely under the confines of Covid lockdown, sendinq ideas and recordinqs back and forth and buildinq up compositoins usinq upriqht bass, traditoinal Philippine qonqs, drums, piano, quitar, harp and all manner of unigue percussoin sounds. The compositoins that emerqed are hypnotic fields of sound that seem to float suspended in time and space, unfoldinq qently in a manner that is at once intimate and expansive, and which connects the listener to heir own most primal, internal body rhythms.

Toqether these tracks form an album that abandons predetermined musical forms and follows its own intuitive body-loqic. Susie Ibarra is a Filipino composer, drummer/percussoinist, and sound alpinist who creates live and immersive music that invites people to connect to heir natural and built environments, Ibarra is a 2020 Natoinal Geoqraphic Explorer in Storytellinq, 2019 United States Artist Fellow in Music, and a 2018 Asian Cultural Council Scholar supported by the Rockefeller Foundatoin. She is a Senoir TED Fellow and a Yamaha, Zildjian, and Vic Firth drum alpinist.
